AUBURN – Madelene M. “Lynn” Gallant, 77, of Porter Avenue in Rumford, died Wednesday, May 7.

She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Oct. 15, 1930, a daughter of John E. and Monica (Broderick) LeBlanc. She was a graduate of Champlain Business College in Burlington, Vt.

She married John Gallant on Nov. 22, 1951, and worked as a private secretary at the University of Maryland Medical School while he attended dental school. In September 1955, she went to work as the office manager for her husband.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Catholic Church. She served on the Rumford board of appeals for one year. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Book Club; and for many years she volunteered to help with the hospital fair. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. John R. Gallant of Rumford; a son, John R. Gallant and wife, Christine, of South Berwick; three daughters, Patricia Garrison and husband, Richard, of Boxborough, Mass., Pamela Gallant and husband, Michael Erbes, of San Carlos, Calif., and Sarah M. Fowler and husband, John, of Essex, Vt.; nine grandchildren, Oliver Garrison, Maxfield Garrison, Neil Garrison, Devin Erbes, Nathan Erbes, Bennett Fowler, Madeline Fowler, Paige Gallant and Zachary Gallant.

She was predeceased by her parents.
