AUGUSTA – Gov. John Baldacci, Congressmen Mike Michaud and Tom Allen and the Maine Arts Commission will honor high school art students at a reception and certificate presentation on Saturday, May 17. The event will take place at the Blaine House.

Lisbon High School senior Colton Jackson, student of art teachers Pam Ouellette and Elaine Cyr, will receive a congressional award for the art piece submitted to the Portland Museum of Art for Youth Art Month.

The Maine Arts Commission was recently contacted by the congressional offices and asked to help facilitate the congressional art competition.

Jennifer Ryan, arts education contractor for the Maine Arts Commission, said, “We are delighted to help in honoring and celebrating student artwork from Maine. For this year, we decided to use pieces exhibited through youth art month as the basis for selections. A panel of art professionals selected the work of Lisbon senior, Colton Jackson, from the Portland Museum of Art’s recent student exhibition.”
