FARMINGTON – The deadline for Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District’s trout program is under way with pick-up set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13. Order deadline is 4 p.m. Monday, May 12.
People stock trout in their private ponds for many reasons, said Rosetta Thompson, district manager. They can stock their ponds for private recreational fishing. Others use trout to clean up leeches or other unwanted pests.
There’s a minimum order size of 35 brook or rainbow trout. The pond must be self-contained and not be part of an open brook or river. To place an order, people must obtain a permit from the Department of Maine Inlands and Fisheries for a minimal fee. Permits last for five years.
