KEENE, N.H. – Anthony D’Alfonso hit a three-run homer to cap off a four-run eighth inning rally and give the University of Southern Maine a 6-5 victory over Rhode Island College in the first day of the 2008 Little East Conference baseball championship tourney on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-2, Ryan Pike hit a solo home run to lead off the eight inning for the Huskies (30-10), before D’Alfonso’s big hit. Jordan Berthiaume contributed with an RBI single. Relief pitcher Tim Therrian earned the win.
Tim Schabowski and B.J. Doyon paced the RIC (24-14) 10-hit attack with three hits apiece.

Bowdoin 11, Mt. Ida 5
BRUNSWICK – Mike Giordano scored a season-high five goals to lead Bowdoin to a victory in their first-ever NCAA Tournament men’s lacrosse game Wednesday, 11-5 over Mt. Ida.
Bowdoin advances to the second round, where it will face NESCAC foe Middlebury on Saturday.
Harry Ashforth had four assists, Boomer Repko gathered a team-high five ground balls, and Max Key won 14 of 19 face-offs for the Polar Bears (12-6).
Mt. Ida’s Matt Savage led the team with two goals, while Tom Watts earned three ground balls.
