Baseball tryouts

PERU – Babe Ruth tryouts will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Peru Elementary field. Call Coach Fenstermacher at 562-4616 or Coach LeMay at 562-7407.

Those who turn 16 on May 1 or later can still play this year. The first game is May 18 and they will play 13 games in the Tri-County Babe Ruth League.

Scheduled games start May 26 and run every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday until the end of June, then there will be playoffs for the top two teams in each of four divisions.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday May 12, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. All area quilters are welcome.

Those who wish may bring six-and-a-half-inch squares cut from one yard of flowered 100 percent cotton material for a spring fabric swap. Quilts for injured service men and women at Walter Reed Hospital will be collected, as well as baby fabric (for boys) which a member is requesting to make baby quilts. Members may bring Show and Tell items. For details, call 562-7050.

Joint meeting

PERU – The Peru Extension Homemakers will meet at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Peru Baptist Church to travel to Swift River for a meeting with that group.

Members are asked to bring a dessert and something for show and tell. They will collect items for the animal shelter also.
