JAY – Justin Staires belted a two-run home run with one out in the seventh inning to give unbeaten Mountain Valley its second consecutive win in its last at-bat – a 3-2 victory over Jay in an MVC baseball game Friday.
Jay (4-3) took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on Mike Holland’s RBI single. Rocky Desanctis was the hard-luck loser, striking out four in a complete-game effort.
Staires picked up the win, pitching the first six innings. Garrett McPherson, Nate Woods and Stares all had two hits for the Falcons (6-0), while Nick Bourassa and Austin Clark had two hits each for Jay.
Livermore Falls 9, Georges Valley 1
THOMASTON – Jake Marceau smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs as Livermore Falls pounded out a 9-1 win over Georges Valley in a boys’ MVC baseball game Friday.
Willie Brown (1-0) went the first six innings, allowing just the one run, to pick up the win for the Andies (6-1). Caleb Baron added a double among his three hits and an RBI.
Travis Carpenter (2-2) suffered the loss for Georges Valley (3-4). Larry Platt led the way for the home team with a double.
Morse 9, Mt. Blue 8
FARMINGTON – Center fielder Nate Newell clubbed a double in the eighth inning to plate Mike Walden for the game-winning run as Morse clipped Mt. Blue, 9-8, in KVAC baseball action Friday.
The Shipbuilders (1-7) sprinkled runs throughout the eight innings, topping Mt. Blue with a pair in the final frame. Walden pitched a superb six and one-third shutout innings for Morse, striking out five, while walking only three.
The Cougars (1-7) rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Senior second baseman Scott Hilton went 3-for-4 with one walk and three singles in the losing effort.
Lisbon 11, Wiscasset 1
LISBON – Marcus Bubar tossed a no-hit shutout in a mercy-rule shortened contest as Lisbon grabbed an 11-1 win over Wiscasset in baseball action Friday.
Mike Unterkoefler went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and drove in the final run to enforce the mercy rule. Kyle Neagle had the only extra base hit with a double that plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning for the Greyhounds (5-1). Jim Davis took the pitching loss for the Redskins (1-4).
Poland 11, Fryeburg 5
FRYEBURG – Casey Ray ignited a four-run first inning with a three-run home run to left as Poland downed Fryeburg 11-5 in baseball action Friday.
Nick Douglass (2-1) allowed five hits while striking out 12 over five innings to pick up the win for the Knights (4-4). Douglass helped his own cause by belting three hits and scoring a pair of runs. Kyle Bates added a pair of hits to go along with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Dan Broyer and Evan Humphrey each rapped a double to lead the Raiders (2-6). Matt McLellan was tagged with the loss.
Lewiston 9, Messalonskee 5
OAKLAND – Freshman Joe Sullivan tossed his first varsity win as Lewiston dumped Messalonskee 9-5 in KVAC baseball action Friday.
Senior second baseman Mike Fontaine crushed a pair of home runs for the Blue Devils (4-4) during the 14-hit outing. Sophomore third baseman Conroy LeBlond plated the eventual game-winning run with his first of two hits in the game.
Nick Curato had two hits for the Eagles (3-5) in the losing effort.
Monmouth 12, Boothbay 2
MONMOUTH – Junior catcher Jim Smith had a big outing, going 3-for-3 while notching two RBIs and two doubles, as Monmouth galloped to a 12-2 triumph over Boothbay in MVC baseball action Friday.
The Seahawks (0-6) struck first as Zach Ronan clubbed an RBI double in the two-run first inning for Boothbay.
Junior first baseman Parker Ferland contributed to the Mustang (3-3) offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and collected an RBI.
Lacrosse
Lewiston 11, Oxford Hills 2
SOUTH PARIS – Ben Landry and Jon Roy both netted three goals as Lewiston cruised to an 11-2 KVAC lacrosse win.
The Blue Devils (5-0) outshot the Vikings (1-4) by a 43-13 margin. They took a 6-2 lead into the intermission. Landry and Roy also added a pair of assists each while Zac Blauvelt chipped in with two goals and an assist. Alex Pare turned aside 13 shots to earn the win in net.
Oxford Hills received goals from Dana Aube and Riley Eusden. Matt Stoudley made 17 saves in net for the Vikings.
Messalonskee 11, EL 4
AUBURN – Tyler Wrigley and Matt DelGuidice each notched hat tricks as Messalonskee beat Edward Little 11-4 in a KVAC boys’ lacrosse match Friday.
Trent Leuttich chipped in with two goals and an assist for the Eagles (3-2). Chris DelGuidice and Kevin Dawes combined for eight saves between the pipes for the visitors.
Edward Little (1-4) picked up single goals from Zack Bennett, Tim Brodsky, Aaron Gould and Tom Lynch. Gould also dished out a pair of assists. Derek Racine made 14 saves and Derek Vachon had seven in net for the Red Eddies.
