RANGELEY – The Rangeley Lakers (5-4) had no problem getting the broom out and sweeping away Greenville with 13-4 and 16-2 victories in a softball doubleheader Saturday.
In Game 1, pitcher Angela White struck out six batters and singled and doubled. Karissa Allen was right at home at the plate, smacking a single, double and triple and driving in four runs as Rangeley exploded with seven runs in the third inning. Teammate Krista Jamison belted a two-run homer.
The Lakers were as equally formidable in the second game when they piled up nine runs in the first inning and rolled to a 16-2 win. Once again Allen came through at the plate, smacking a double and two singles, and driving in three runs.
Rangeley’s Hayley White, whose twin sister, Angela, got the win in the first game, threw a two-hitter and drove in three runs on her two singles.
Georges Valley 3, Hall-Dale 2
THOMASTON – Erin Judkins’ seventh-inning bunt brought Ashley Geel home with the winning run, as undefeated Georges Valley (7-0) snuck past Hall-Dale, 3-2, in a softball game Saturday.
The Buccaneers tied the game in the seventh on a Geel double. The Bulldogs (5-2) were holding a 2-1 lead before Georges Valley pulled it together.
Baseball
Rangeley splits
RANGELEY – Rangeley exploded with 10 runs in the fourth inning and rolled to a 15-1 victory in the first game of a baseball doubleheader against Greenville on Saturday. But Greenville quickly recovered and beat the Lakers, 5-3, in the second game.
In the first game, winning pitcher Ben Bliss struck out six batters and punched out a pair of singles and then doubled. Teammate Luke Hammond walloped a homer and hit a pair of singles. Ken Madiera had two singles.
In the second game, Rangeley was holding all the cards with a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Greenville bounced back and scored five runs to take Game 2.
For Rangeley, David Raymond and Bliss each singled.
Girls’ lacrosse
Morse 17, EL 6
BATH – Sarah Rouillard scored five goals, and teammates Maggie Smith and Beth Suggs dropped in another four apiece as Morse glided away with a 17-6 victory in girls’ lacrosse Saturday.
For Edward Little (2-3), Kirsten Prue punched in four goals, and teammates Carmen Lasagna and Karen Leary also deposited a goal.
The Shipbuilders (5-2) built a 10-4 lead after the first half. Morse outshot the Red Eddies, 37-22.
