Lodge notice

RUMFORD – The Gorizia Lodge 467, Sons of Italy, will hold a regular monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18. All members are invited to attend.

Society speaker

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will meet at the museum at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, for a potluck supper followed by a short business meeting and a program by Billie Gammon.

Dr. Ethel “Billie” Gammon, PhD, of Livermore, will share highlights of her 92 years as a teacher, wife, mother and of her work with Norlands Living History Center.

In 2006 the Maine Folklife Center, an organization that is devoted to the preservation of tales and traditions of New England, published a book written by Gammon’s granddaughter titled “No Flies on Bill.”

Last winter Gammon her own book of memories. The public is invited.

League to begin

RUMFORD – The Rumford/Mexico Horseshoe Club will start Monday, May 12, at Hosmer Field for pre-season pitching.

New players are welcome and the league is open to adults of all skill levels. The normal season lasts 15 weeks throughout the summer and participants need to have played at least 12 games to qualify for the year-end tourney.

League nights are 6 p.m. Mondays, with a rain day of Tuesdays.

RUMFORD – The Mexico High School, Class of 1948 will meet for luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Route 2 Diner.
