Emblem Club picks its Citizen of Year

FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 honored its Citizen of the Year, Kevin Vining of Farmington, recently.

Vining, along with his parents, Everett and Olive Vining, were guests at the club’s supper, which preceded the meeting on May 1. A special cake made by member Stacy Dunham was served for dessert.

Vining, a contractor, has donated time in restoring Hippach Field, repairing school play grounds and coaching youth sports activities. Vining received a plaque and was given a bouquet of red roses to take home to his wife, Judy.

President Sylvia Richards called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. There were 28 members present and 66 absent, for a total of 94. Corresponding Secretary Annette Pound read two letters received by member, Christina Brandt, who is stationed Afghanistan. Brandt is the daughter of club members, Quinnale and Joey Kinsey.

Americanism Chairwoman Mabel Cox reminded members that the club will perform two flag-folding ceremonies this spring. The first will be on Monday, May 26, at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta, the second on Monday, June 16, at Girls State in Bangor. On Saturday, May 24, members will place flags on the graves of deceased members.

Crystal Lloyd will be in charge of the June 16 Emblem Club-sponsored Father’s Day breakfast to be held at the Farmington Elks Lodge.

Donations will be made to the Norlands Living History Center to help in the restoration after damage from a recent fire and to the summer reading program for children.

This month’s mystery gift was won by Lois Barker and the 50-50 raffle by Mabel Cox.
