BETHEL – The 29th annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in the meeting room of the Bethel Historical Society’s Dr. Moses Mason House.

This year’s theme – “It’s All Relatives!” – represents a departure from the show’s usual approach to local history by focusing attention on favorite relatives from the past or present. Elementary students in SAD 44 are being asked to submit “people art” – drawings or paintings of a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or some other relative. Portraits traditionally show a person’s face, but students may choose to submit artwork portraying a relative doing something interesting or that makes him or her memorable.

All SAD 44 elementary students are invited to enter the show by submitting a finished artwork in any medium no larger than 12 inches by 18 inches. No entry will be considered with writing or lettering (except as part of a sign) on the front side. It must be delivered to the Dr. Moses Mason House Meeting Room by 3 p.m. Friday, May 23, to be considered for a prize. Saturday morning, at least three judges will choose the winners of cash prizes in three age categories.

For other contest requirements, call the society at 824-2908 or e-mail info@bethelhistorical.org.

The contest honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor (1908-1972), a local landscape painter who encouraged the creative talents of young people. Taylor was also a charter member of the Bethel Historical Society and its first treasurer.
