FARMINGTON – Zaidee M. Hargreaves, 87, of Farmington died Monday, May 12, at Sandy River Center for Health Care.
She was born in New Vineyard, March 23, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Rice) McKenney. She attended the schools of New Portland graduating from Central High in North New Portland.
On Feb. 21, 1942, she married Ernest Hargreaves in Mt. Pleasant, N.Y. She worked as a New Vineyard hot lunch program cook, was the first librarian at the New Vineyard Public Library, then as a substitute postal clerk at the New Vineyard Post Office, and for Seniors Plus Meals on Wheels at the Ethel Walton Apartments in Farmington.
She was a member of the Rebekahs, the Franklin County Extension, The Farmington American Legion Aux., the New Vineyard Cemetery Committee, and the New Vineyard Congregational Church Missionary Society.
She enjoyed painting, counting cross stitching, sewing, knitting, camping, cooking, reading, stamp collecting and genealogy. She also enjoyed traveling to many places including Japan, England, Germany, and all over the United States.
She is survived by her daughter, Frances Viles and her husband, Thelford, of New Sharon; two sons, Vincent Hargreaves of Litchfield and John Hargreaves and his wife, Jennifer, of Farmingdale; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alicia, Gary, Sherie, Jeremy, Jacey and Jared; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Vertie Agren and her husband, Gustaf, of West New Portland; sister-in-laws, Joyce and Willadine McKenney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; a daughter, Elizabeth Hargreaves; brothers, William and David McKenney; and sisters, June Whitcomb and Viola Turner.
