The Dead River Historical Society in Stratton will be open weekends in July and August.
Dead River society announces events
STRATTON – The Dead River Area Historical Society will be open every weekend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during July and August.
Displays will include artifacts, manuscripts and photographs that have been donated or loaned by townspeople and descendants of original families of the Dead River region.
Collections from 1850 on include old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River Plantation, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
The following events have been scheduled:
Stratton Days featuring Flagstaff, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 and 29.
Opening day, July 5, “Dead River Plantation, Gone But Not Forgotten.”
Sam O. White Day, July 13.
Benedict Arnold Exhibit, July 20.
“People Who Worked on the River Drive,” 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
Cox Family Day, Aug. 10.
Bachelder Family Day, Aug. 17.
Founder’s Day, “Steven’s First Family,” Aug. 24.
Those events are scheduled so far and they are subject to change.
