FRYEBURG – The 2008 Northern New England Home, Garden and Flower Show, featuring a 32- by 20-foot backyard garden railroad, will be held May 16-18 at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds. The garden railroad comes complete with miniature trains, a detailed scale model of the North Conway Railroad Station, stonewalls, water displays, plants, trees, trestles and bridges.

The Maine Garden Railway Society and the Gingerbread Perennial Farm of Wayne teamed up with Rock n’ Water of Freedom, N.H., to design and create this unique display of miniature steam and diesel locomotives pulling trains throughout the landscape.

More than 200 exhibitors with a variety of products and services related to the home, garden and energy industry will be at the show. The SmartHome Owner Seminar Series will offer talks and demonstrations on alternative energy options, while almost six outside acres will be filled with lawn and power equipment, RVs, boats, electric cars and additional products.

The popular Meet the Chefs Cooking Series showcasing Maine and New Hampshire chefs will return. Chefs will share culinary secrets and recipes in a specially designed kitchen furnished with state-of-the-art appliances.

The Garden Marketplace will feature 10 commercial garden centers offering a wide assortment of perennials, annuals, vegetable seedlings and shrubs. Many offer organic products; all are rated for the Northeast zone. The All Things Growing Garden Seminar Series will include talks, slide shows and demonstrations on a variety of topics related to the garden.

For shoppers, the White Mountain Trolley provides complimentary transportation to and from the parking lots at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds on Route 5.

The Northern New England Home Garden and Flower Show will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 16; from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Admission is $8 general admission, $6 for seniors 65-plus, $4 for youths 6-16 and free for children under 6.
