NORWAY – A drug investigation led to a chain reaction of arrests over the weekend, with two men arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine and a couple arrested for burglary.

Police arrested Kevin Scott Hamlin, 41, on Friday after a three-month investigation, officer Theron Bickford said.

He said police got eight grams of cocaine from Hamlin through undercover purchases and a search of his vehicle. A usable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his home.

“We didn’t recover any scales,” Bickford said. “However, we do know that most of the stuff that they sell is weighed at another location and brought in to sell.”

Hamlin was charged with two counts of drug trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance and three counts of operating after suspension.

The burglary arrests came about coincidentally. Police received information during the drug investigation that Robert L. Powell Jr., 47 – a passenger in Hamlin’s vehicle – and Kristina E. Daly, 33, both of Pearl Street, had burglarized a Mini Apple in Paris last week, Bickford said.

He said Daly admitted to the burglary. He and Powell were arrested after he showed police 673 packs of cigarettes and an empty safe that were being kept in storage. Bickford said the safe was empty when it was stolen, and that the couple was selling the cigarettes on the street at a cheaper rate than store prices.

Over the course of the investigation, Bickford said, police also discovered that Heath Edwards, 28, of Maple Ridge Road in Harrison, was allowing Hamlin to use his vehicle to transport the drugs.

Edwards was arrested Sunday on charges of drug trafficking and violation of bail conditions.

Edwards was arrested in another cocaine bust on Cottage Street last month and charged with aggravated drug trafficking.

Of the four people arrested, he was the only person remaining at the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday.
