AUBURN – A Turner man was charged with drunken driving late Tuesday after the car he was driving flipped, took out a small tree and landed on its roof on Center Street.
Police said 42-year-old Richard Cash was driving down the offramp of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge about 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car while turning right onto Center Street.
Police said the car struck a Center Street median as Cash was turning. It was believed speed was a factor in the crash.
Cash was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse owned by Mark Sheink, 42, of Turner, who was a passenger in the car, police said.
Both men were examined at the scene but neither required medical treatment.
Police said there was evidence that Cash had been drinking and they arrested him on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Damage to the Mitsubishi was extensive. Police said a tree that had been recently planted on the median was mowed down in the wreck.
