PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A jury has ended a second day of deliberations without reaching a verdict in the case of a Woonsocket aunt accused of killing her 3-year-old nephew.

Katherine Bunnell is charged with murder and conspiracy for the October 2004 death of Thomas “T.J” Wright.

The jury is scheduled to resume deliberations Friday.

Prosecutors say Bunnell beat Wright because she was mad he made a mess in her apartment. She allegedly struck the toddler in his head and face, dragged him down the stairs and poured milk over his head.

Bunnell’s defense attorney says that while his client struck the toddler, she did not inflict the fatal injuries. He blamed her live-in boyfriend, Gilbert Delestre, who is also charged and will be tried separately.
