FARMINGTON – Four NorthStar emergency medical workers will begin a 600-mile bike trip from New York City to Roanoke, Va., Saturday as part of a National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.
Along with acknowledging EMS Week, which begins May 18, the bikers want to raise awareness regarding EMS Line of Duty Death and work-related injuries, Carl Blondell of NorthStar.
Team NorthStar will honor local paramedic Allan Parsons of Wilton who was killed on the job in Turner last July. Parsons worked for Med-Care Ambulance in Mexico. He was caring for a patient traveling in an ambulance when it collided with a pickup truck on Route 4. Parsons died of injuries suffered in the crash.
Bike-team member Blaine Rackliff of East Dixfield hopes to let everyone know about Parsons during this year’s ride.
Events are planned along the way in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Annapolis and Washington, D.C. The trip will end with a memorial service in Roanoke on May 24 to remember 72 EMS personnel who have given their lives while performing their jobs, he added.
