WASHINGTON (AP) – Nearly $11 million for a new submarine maintenance facility at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is making its way through Congress.
The money has been approved by a House committee. It would be used to build a new facility to maintain, repair, refuel and overhaul nuclear submarines at the yard, in Kittery, Maine.
The request was submitted by New Hampshire Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter. She says helping the shipyard and protecting workers’ jobs there are among her top priorities.
The request still has to pass through the House and Senate.
