LEWISTON – A Lewiston man was shot Monday night while walking through a yard on Horton Street.

The victim, James DeHeart, 44, was listed in stable condition Monday at Central Maine Medical Center.

Another Lewiston man was arrested in connection with the incident, which happened near Saints Peter and Paul Basilica.

“The victim was just walking through the suspect’s yard,” said Lt. Mark Cornelio of the Lewiston Police Department. Cornelio said he doesn’t know why DeHeart was shot.

DeHeart was shot in the buttocks area, Cornelio said.

Police arrested Kenneth Phipps, 56, of Lewiston about 11:30 p.m., roughly three hours after the incident. Phipps was charged with elevated aggravated assault.
