LIVERMORE FALLS – People will have a chance to learn history, listen to music, enjoy displays and sample tasty food during the annual History Night this Friday.

The event that begins at 4 p.m. downtown continues to attract more people each year to celebrate the history of the area.

Two special activities are planned. At 4 p.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the new Maine Paper and Heritage Museum on Church Street. Horse-drawn carriage rides will pick up participants at the Group Adams Propane Services parking lot on Depot Street and bring them to the museum. The first floor of the museum is set up and waiting for visitors.

The evening will conclude at 8 p.m. after the 7:45 p.m. commemoration of the newly fixed town tower clock atop the bank building on Main Street.

In between, the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group has a host of activities planned.

With support of the Livermore Falls Historical Society and some private collections, History Night makes available displays that capture the flavor of the town in years past, Kathleen Szostek, chairwoman of event, stated in a news release.

“In addition to photographs, newspaper clippings, and written accounts, there will be … demonstrations of crafts,” she said.

Among the presentations will be a blacksmith, chain saw wood carver, glass blower, and wood turner, knitting and rug braiding.

Some of the sharpest looking antique and classic vehicles will visit the area and park along Main Street.

There are also special activities planned for children, including story time, petting zoo, sidewalk chalk drawing contest, decorating and face painting and a chance to have a photo taken in vintage clothing.

The Old Crow Band, Helena Starr and Paula Kaiser are expected to perform their music and there will be lots of offerings of food including ice cream to benefit rebuilding the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center and a chili fund-raiser put on by Boy Scouts.

A list of events can be found on www.historynight.org.
