LEWISTON – Lewiston Adult Education has a variety of academic, workforce training and enrichment classes gearing up for the summer. Classes will be available to help residents complete high school diplomas, prepare for college and build skills for a new career.

Lewiston Adult Education’s new culinary arts certificate program, to be housed in the new LRTC Green Ladle culinary arts facility, will begin this summer.

Residents earning the certificate will have completed more than 80 hours of hands-on training and have taken the opportunity to utilize their new skills as they participate in catering functions throughout the summer. The culinary arts certificate program will run from July 8 through Aug. 21.

Other classes are available to help residents earn a clerical, medical office or accounting certificate and build workforce and computer technology skills.

Workforce training classes, including “Medical Terminology,” “MS Excel,” “Basic Keyboarding” and “Business Writing,” will begin the week of July 7.

Academic classes, including “Algebra I,” “Chemistry,” “Contemporary Government,” “Critical Reading Strategies for College and Work” and “Math Lab Support,” will be offered for students who wish to earn their high school diploma, refresh skills before college classes or complete college or nursing school prerequisites. Academic classes will begin the week of July 7.

The College Transition Program will again be available at no cost to any successful applicant residing in Androscoggin County. Applicants must hold a high school diploma or General Educational Development certificate.

The transition program helps to refresh reading, writing and math skills and develop successful study habits in residents preparing to apply to college. The program will begin the week of June 2, and end the week of Aug. 11.

Registration for summer classes is open. Any resident wishing to take classes must first contact Lewiston Adult Education academic/career adviser Elayne Bean at 795-4141. For more information or to register, visit www.lewistonadulted.org or call 795-4141.
