Plant, shrub sale

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon United Methodist Church will sponsor a spring plant and shrub sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the church, 14 School St.

Included in the sale will be geraniums, hanging baskets, potted plants, vegetables and premium annuals. There will be high-bush blueberries, lilacs, honeysuckle, hydrangea and a variety of trees.

It was decided to expand this year’s sale to include local crafts people and artisans, who will display their workmanship. In addition, there will be food for sale featuring homebaked goods.

Canine classes

AUBURN – Great Falls Dog Obedience Club is starting a five-week dog obedience class Wednesday, May 28, in Auburn. Beginners will meet at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Dogs must be at least 3 1/2 months old. To register and for more information, call the club’s trainer, Diane Harrington, at 784-7578.

CAP open house

AUBURN – The 77th Composite Squadron Maine Wing CAP, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, will hold an open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the L/A Airport, 80 Airport Drive.

There will be demonstrations in aerospace and search and rescue and CAP displays. Civil Air Patrol pilots will be available and tour given of the newest planes. Refreshments will be served.

Society speaker

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Old Schoolhouse, 1229 Maine St., next to the Poland Town Office. The speaker will be Wayne Holmquist, who will speak on the subject of endowments for nonprofits. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The public is invited.

Empty nest program

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon High School Guidance Department will hold its “Empty Nest” evening program for senior parents dealing with the departure of their student for college in the fall. The Guidance Department will offer hints and information on how to handle the transition from high school and home to college. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in the Lisbon High School library.

Memorial program

AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet at the hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22. A memorial program will be presented by Chaplain Judy Holbrook. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

EL class reunion

AUBURN – The Edward Little High School Class of 1978 will hold its 30-year reunion on Aug. 29 at the Ramada Conference Center in Lewiston.

Information has been mailed. Those who have not received it should call 1-800-561-8506 with name, maiden name, address and phone number.

Ride to end hunger

DURHAM – The fifth annual Ride to End Hunger will be held on Saturday, June 7, with registration from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Durham Get ‘n’ Go, Route 136.

The ride will depart at 10:45 a.m. and the destination is Good Shepherd Food-Bank, 3121 Hotel Road, Auburn.

In case of rain, it will become an all vehicle ride. There will be noontime prize drawings, tours and refreshments followed by the presentation of donations to the food bank.

Suggested donation is a $10 registration fee per rider, which provides 48 meals. For more information, call Priscilla Higgins at 353-6264 days or 353-2552 evenings.

Blood drive

WINTHROP – There will be a community blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall on Lake Street. The drive is open to all donors. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. A form of identification is required.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on May 19 were: first, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; second, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; third, Lucille Bilodeau and Nancy Lindgren; fourth/first in B, Judy Abromson and Anita Perrier; second in B, Cynthia Bonsey and Sue Kaluzynski.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for more information. There will be no game on Memorial Day, May 26.
