JAY – Verso Paper has renamed the Androscoggin Mill cafeteria Linda’s Cafe in honor of Linda Latham of Jay, who died May 13 from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident not far from the mill.

Latham, 61, worked for a contractor that provided food services to the cafeteria. The crash happened when an out-of-state driver failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Route 4 and Riley Road and struck Latham’s car.

“In the time following the tragic accident, folks in the mill wanted some way to show their sentiment, concern for and respect for Linda,” Verso spokesman Bill Cohen said Monday. “The naming of the cafeteria was one suggestion made by a number of folks. Thus working within the mill and with the contractor the decision to rename the cafeteria was made to honor her memory.”

The cafe reopened Monday morning with the new name.
