PARIS – Al Atkinson has announced that he is running for the Board of Selectmen.

Atkinson has served on the Paris Planning Board, the Paris Budget Committee, and the Comprehensive Plan Committee, according to a news release issued by the candidate.

Atkinson served as the assistant code officer and a data collector during the property re-evaluation, the release stated.

He lives with his wife Bonnie across the street from the Paris Elementary School.

Before moving to South Paris in 2001, he was was president and owner of Power Computer Systems Inc. He spent 14 years in executive positions in the computer industry. Prior to joining the computer field, he worked in senior managerial positions for 16 years in the financial/banking industry.

His volunteer work has included positions as chairman of a homeowners association, founding president of the Atlantic Ultralight Association, president of a community club, public relations director of Atlantic Air Shows and superintendent of his church’s Sunday school, the release stated.

Now retired, Atkinson has been a participant in town committees.

“He has had time to observe and has found it is time for some changes. He sees a need for a select board to have some cooperation among themselves, a need to get business done in a timely and mature manner, a member who has only the community of Paris as an agenda, someone to protect its citizens best interests, someone to plan for the future and most of all, someone who will take the time to listen to the citizens concerns,” the release stated.
