LEWISTON – The first annual Franco American War Veterans Award was presented to senior cadet 1st Lieutenant James Jordan of Poland High School during the Lewiston High School Cadet Law Enforcement Program graduation on May 15.

The award is presented to a senior cadet who is going into the Armed Services and has made outstanding contributions to the Lewiston Regional Technical Center law enforcement program. It was presented by past Franco American War Veteran National Commanders Bert Dutil and Lindy McCollum.

Other awards were presented at the ceremony by the Lewiston and Auburn police departments and Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department.

The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence for departed law enforcement and military comrades. Instructor Maurice Hyde officiated at the ceremony.

The 17th annual Maine State Police Detective Giles R. Landry Memorial Award was presented to 2nd Lieutenant Abigail Poulin of Lisbon High School as outstanding senior LRTC Law Enforcement Program cadet.

The 17th annual Officer David R. Payne Memorial Award was presented by LPD Chief William Welch to Cadet Robert Leeman of Lewiston High School as outstanding junior cadet.

The 17th annual Detective Lieutenant Matthew Pitcher Memorial Award was presented by Androscoggin Sheriff Guy P. Desjardins to Staff Sergeant Brian Shales of Edward Little High School as outstanding criminal investigations cadet.

The 17th annual officer Rodney C. Bonney Memorial Award was presented by APD Chief Phil Crowell Jr. to 2nd Lieutenant Abigail Poulin of Lisbon High School for courage and devotion to the law enforcement program class.

The 17th annual U.S. Marshal Emery Jordan Award was presented by Hyde to Captain Samantha Fieldler of Oak Hill High School as senior cadet who best emulates Jordan’s leadership qualities.

The 13th annual Lieutenant William R. Ferracci Sr. Award was presented by Captain John Lebel of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department to 1st Lieutenant James Jordan of Poland High School for entering the Armed Services in 2008.

The 10th annual S.A. James Osterrieder Award was presented by Hyde to Cadet Sierra Cromwell of Lewiston High School for outstanding Phase 1 boot camp junior cadet.

The 10th annual U.S. Marshall Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. Award was presented by Hyde to Cadet Peter Ewing of Oak Hill High School to a junior cadet for outstanding community service.

The ninth annual Captain Raymond Lafrance Award was presented by Sheriff Desjardins to CM Corey Boucher of Lewiston High School for patriotism, professional demeanor and excellent attendance in the program.

The seventh annual Sergeant First Class James Rioux Memorial Award was presented by Hyde to Staff Sergeant Dustin Poirier of Leavitt Area High School as the program’s “Unsung Hero.”

The second annual Deputy Sheriff David J. Rancourt Memorial Award was presented by Dawn Rancourt to 1st Lieutenant James Jordan of Poland High School as outstanding water rescue training senior cadet who emulates those qualities demonstrated by Deputy Rancourt.

Hyde made the following 2008 program awards:

The Senior Leadership Award to Captain Eryn Pelletier of Oak Hill High School.

The Senior D&C Award to Cadet Major Corey Boucher of Lewiston High School.

The Senior Service Award to Staff Sergeant Dustin Poirier of Leavitt Area High School.

The Senior Most Improved Award to Staff Sergeant Brian Shales of Edward Little High School.

The Senior Physical Fitness Award to Corporal Brandon Plourde of Oak Hill High School.
