DIXFIELD – The 10th annual Dirigo High School Dixfield/Dirigo Alumni Association academic honors banquet was held May 18 at the high school’s student community center.
The annual banquet honors Dirigo High School students who earn honors or high honors for three consecutive academic rank periods. More than 40 students were recognized and presented an academic letter and/or pin and a certificate by Principal Dan Hart and their class adviser and homeroom teacher.
More than 125 individuals, including honored students, their parents, family members, high school staff and administration, attended the event. Music Director Ken Labrecque provided music during and after dinner.
Banquet guest speakers were Michelle Hebert, Class of 2004, recent graduate from the University of Maine in Orono; Trevis Knapp, Class of 2005, junior at University of Maine at Farmington; and Chris Richards, Class of 2006, sophomore at the University of Maine in Orono.
The three shared achievements and challenges of their years at Dirigo High School, as well as accomplishments and setbacks while at college. The conclusion of their presentations were to provide a motto or advice for Dirigo High School students to consider for life after high school.
Betty Swan shared a congratulatory message by alumni association officer/member John Holmes and encouraged students to be involved in the alumni association in future years.
Hart thanked student waiters Christoph Pelz, Marina Slover, Nic Crutchfield, Ben Dolloff, Kyle Hutchinson, Brooke Kersey and Tianna Wells, as well as SAD 21 Food Services Director Marge Kennedy and Food Managers Sonia Blaisdell and Melinda Felt for the special decor and an outstanding dinner menu.
