ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Beulah Carrigan Crosby, 91, passed away on Saturday, May 24, at the Life Care Center. She was the wife of the late William W. Crosby, to whom she was married for 57 years, until his death in 1999.

She resided at Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro for the past six years and Riverside, R.I., for 57 years previous to that.

She was born in Lewiston, the daughter of the late William F. and Beulah B. Carrigan. Her father played for and managed the Boston Red Sox for several years, including the 1915 and 1916 teams that won back-to-back World Series championships, and whose star was the legendary Babe Ruth.

She and her siblings spent many summers in Boston watching their father manage the team. She graduated from Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Colby-Sawyer College, New London, N.H., and the Chamberlain Business School, Boston, prior to working for several years as a buyer at Gladdings Department Store in Providence, R.I.

She spent most summers at her Lake Annabessacook camp in Winthrop, enjoying family, friends and nature. She was always active, enjoying many hobbies including bridge, painting, horses, tennis and golf.

She was a member of many Rhode Island civic organizations and clubs, serving as a Skating Club of Rhode Island board member for several years and running the “Cob Web” thrift store for Riverside Congregational Church. She loved traveling with her husband, Bill and her sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Gene Coughlin.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Thomas A. Gruppioni of North Attleboro, Mass.; three grandchildren, Stephen A. Gruppioni of Boston and Kelly C. and Casey E. Gruppioni, both of North Attleborough; seven nieces and nephews from Maine, New Hampshire and Oregon; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Constance C. Coughlin, and a brother, William F. Carrigan, Jr., both from Maine.
