LEWISTON – Brothers PFC Benjamin W. Sweeney and PV2 Joseph K. Sweeney have recently completed basic training and graduated from Advanced Individual Training School at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.

In December, Benjamin, a 2004 graduate of Lewiston High School, completed 14 weeks of One Station Unit Training for combat engineer. The training included basic urban combat operations, creating and utilizing demolitions, building wire obstacles and performing military operations on urban terrain, as well as detection and identification of mines.

Benjamin now serves with the Headquarters Support Co., 133rd Engineer Battalion in Gardiner and is a student at the University of Maine in Orono.

Joseph, a 2007 graduate of Lewiston High School, was trained in the operation of military vehicles, including the five-ton truck, the M915 tractor with trailer and the HEMTT load handling system (LHS) in convoys and tactical situations.

Joseph received the Army Achievement Medal for his outstanding performance and graduating first in his class. He is serving with the 1136th Transportation Co. in Bangor and will attend Lyndon State College, Lydonville, Vt., in the fall.

Benjamin and Joseph are the sons of Gary and Marlene Sweeney of Lewiston.
