FARMINGTON – The husband-wife duo of Peter Dumont and Megan Roberts will show their watercolors at Heirlooms of Tomorrow during June. An opening reception with the artists will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7. The public is invited.
Both are natives of Maine and have lived their lives appreciating and enjoying nature. Dumont was employed by the state until his recent retirement. He was a natural history educator, first serving as executive director of the Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond, then teaching marine sciences for the Department of Marine Resources.
Later in his career, Dumont also collected landing statistics for Maine’s Saltwater Sport Fishery. This exposure to the natural world influenced his art and how he views the world. Coastal scenes, boats and fish are his favorite subjects. Dumont said he enjoys the challenges that painting in watercolor present.
Roberts has worked in the ski industry throughout the United States for more than 30 years, and is now director of the Ski Museum of Maine in Farmington.
She also spent four years as manager of Titcomb Mountain, a local ski area. She also teaches yoga. Her travels and spending time outdoors have given her the chance to experience nature. Roberts’ painting style and subjects are eclectic.
The pair paint because they find it relaxing and fun. They both enjoy Alpine skiing and race together competitively on the New England Master’s Race Circuit. They also enjoy sailing, hiking, tennis and reading. They reside on Voter Hill in Farmington, where they look out over the mountains.
This past winter their work was shown in Goldsmith’s Gallery at Sugarloaf. Dumont’s work can also be seen at the Ducktrap Trading Company Gallery in Camden, and Roberts’ at Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley.
Heirlooms of Tomorrow is located at 710 Wilton Road.
