ANDOVER – Colby A. “Bump” Roberts, 83, of South Main Street, Andover, died at his residence with his family by his side, Wednesday, May 28.
He was born May 31, 1924, in Brooks, a son of James and Doris (Smith) Roberts, and attended schools in Brooks.
During World War II, he served as a U.S. Navy BM2c(T) including overseas in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the Philippines.
He worked for more than 36 years at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford until retirement in 1986 from the supercalanders.
He was a member of Cabot Lodge 117, K. Of P. in Andover; member Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW in Rumford, and a member Andover Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, his camp at Garland Pond, watching NASCAR, Red Sox, and the Patriots, and enjoyed working in his apple orchard, garden and his wood pile, and loved spending time with his family.
He was married in Augusta on Sept. 4, 1948, to the former Glennice M. Silver, who died in Rumford, on Aug. 24, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Alston Roberts and wife, Linda, of Andover; grandchildren, Howard Roberts of Andover, Rebecca Winson and husband, Lawrence, of Mexico and Melissa Newcomb of Milton Plantation; great-grandchildren, Kendra and Gabriel Winson of Mexico, Tyzel Richard of Andover, Colby Roberts of Michigan, and Zariah Lane of Mexico; a sister, Mona Paine of Bellingham, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife; a daughter, Mona Lynn Roberts; a son, Ashley Roberts; and a sister, Muriel Eldridge.
