Dear Sun Spots: I have a 1900 French coin – value? It’s smooth (worn) so I can’t see if it’s “ecu” or “sori”. Can anyone tell me if there’s any value there? Phone number is 353-3136. I’m home every evening after 5:00. – S.R.T., Lisbon.

We are again appealing to your readers for help for our nonprofit organization. The Bargain Basket thrift shop located on the corner of College and Bartlett streets has had a successful spring clearance sale. All proceeds from sale of donated items are for the maintenance and upkeep of St. Martin de Porres Residence for men and women in need of shelter. We are in need of good used furniture, such as tables, chairs, beds, bureaus, upholstered chairs and baby furniture. Pots and pans, sheets, blankets, are also needed. We are exceedingly grateful to our volunteers and benefactors who help make our mission successful. Thank you once again for helping those less fortunate. The shop is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, please call 786-4690 on the above days and hours. – Constance Lecompte, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: I truly know we have guardian angels left in this world. Reason being my grandfather had a bad spell a few Mondays ago and the Becklers and Brad Thibodeau who were passing by saw him lying on the ground beside his truck. They stopped to help, called 911. He was near death because of his sugar. They stayed until help arrived. I, his granddaughter, am so grateful to you because you saved his life. I hope someday I can do something for you. From my heart and soul thank you! P.S. My grandfather is doing well. – Dominique Richardson, Hartford.

Dear Sun Spots: Would you please reprint the name of the organization that accepts used toys and books in good condition for children of all ages. Thank you. – M & M, Lewiston.

Answer: Contact the Toy Library, 134 College St., Lewiston at 782-1112. They are open Monday to Friday 9 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m. They would be happy to take your donation of gently used children’s books. They will also take toys if it’s something they can use. The Toy Library is a play area for children, mostly aged 6 months to 8 years old. The cost is $2 per child, free for children under 1.

You may also consider donating your items to local day care centers or churches.

Dear Sun Spots: We would like to thank all the readers who donated books, puzzles, and movies to the Auburn Towne House. It will certainly add to our library and has given the tenants of the building many hours of enjoyment. Thank you also to our local businesses who donated items for our Spring Fling rummage sale on May 10. It was a great success. – Tenants of the Auburn Towne House.
