PORTLAND – Greenhut Galleries is pleased to announce a new exhibition titled “Updraft” by artist Kathleen Galligan.

In her first solo show at Greenhut in 10 years, Galligan presents a new body of pastel works. In a departure from traditional landscapes, Galligan has created a series of aerial views both real and imagined. Inspired by flights along the coast, as well as a heightened consciousness towards global concerns, these new works offer an expansive perspective and depth of vision.

Galligan has the flexibility to create works of varying subject and style. “Stylistically, these pieces combine two ways I have explored the medium,” Galligan says. “The most recent series of pastels were extremely seamless, blended and atmospheric … Prior to that, I worked for many years with a highly textural, more active notation, with a lot of suggested detail. Now, those two stylistic uses of pastel have interestingly merged.”

The show will run June 5-28. An opening reception with the artist will take place at Greenhut Galleries from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. Additionally, Galligan will give an artist’s talk about her new work and the pastel medium on Saturday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Greenhut Galleries is located at 146 Middle St., Portland. Call 772-2693 or visit www.greenhutgalleries.com for more information.
