PORTLAND – Marion L. Millett, 81, of Norway, died Friday, May 30, at Maine Medical Center in Portland with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Norway on April 14, 1927, the daughter of John Leslie and Verna (Westleigh) Millett. She was a graduate of Norway High School. She attended Bates College for one year and attended Madawaska Training School. She worked on the family farm and later taught school at the Brighton Hill School in Hebron.
She married Leland Millett on July 23, 1951.
She was a member of Stone Smart American Legion Auxiliary, Norway Universalist Unitarian Church, Hayward Club, past member of Mt. Hope Rebecka Lodge, and served as president of the Stone Smart Auxiliary. She helped cook for many years for the Kiwanis dinner at the Universalist Church, and wrote for the Lewiston Sun Journal as an area correspondent in Norway. She liked to play Bingo, enjoyed making ceramics for which she won blue ribbons at the Fryeburg Fair as well as the Oxford County Fair, and cooked for the Norway Community Lunch program until her health declined.
She loved to read, work on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed watching the birds. She loved animals and especially her cat Missy. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Marion is survived by her husband, Lee, of Norway; daughters, Rhonda L. Millett of Gorham, Deborah M. Lockie and husband, Jay, of Grover Hill, Ohio; a son, Paul and his partner, Marjorie Baril, of Norway; and three grandchildren, Marklee Lockie and fiancee, Lily, Jonathan Lockie and wife, Katie, and Timothy Lockie.
She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Andy Arneth.
