BETHEL – The 29th annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show was held on May 24 in the exhibit room of the Bethel Historical Society’s Dr. Moses Mason House.
The theme was “It’s All Relatives!,” focusing on favorite relatives or “people art” from the past or present and it was open to all SAD 44 elementary students. Prizes this year were increased due to the generosity of Don and Kathy Bennett, who serve on the society’s Art Committee.
First prize was $50, second prize $35 and $20 in three divisions. Judges this year included Tim Kavanaugh, Larry Engdahl and Donald Bennett.
Winners included the following:
Division I, first, Kaiya Corriveau, grade two, Crescent Park School; second, Maddox Ormiston, grade two, Crescent Park School; third, Elayna Harrison, grade two, Crescent Park School.
Division II, first, Zoe Libby Bean, grade three, Crescent Park School; second, Regan Kauf, grade three, Crescent Park School; third, Caleb Clarke, grade four, Crescent Park School.
Division III, first, Mike Rodway, grade five, Crescent Park School; second, Skyelynn Patten, grade five, Crescent Park School; third, Liz Lyons, grade five, Crescent Park School.
Those who hung the art were Kathy Bennett, Grace Douglass, Arlene Lowell and Jim Macgregor.
The contest honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor (1908-1972), a local landscape painter, who was interested in encouraging the creative talents of young people.
Taylor was also a charter member of the Bethel Historical Society and its first treasurer. This event is one of several programming opportunities offered to students each year by the society.
