Students to present research
LEWISTON – La Rencontre will gather at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the Franco-American Heritage Center. People are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour program.
The event will begin with a meal prepared by Lots to Gardens, the teen catering program of the Sisters of Charity Health Systems. Campus Cuisine will also provide part of the menu, which will include cream of vegetable soup, pasta salad, a variety of finger rolls, dessert and beverage.
Lots to Gardens trains teens to work with produce prepared from their own gardens. When produce are in season, they prepare the meals with what they have grown and they, in turn, learn and grow as individuals. For more information on Lots to Gardens, contact Sherry at 513-3844.
The Casco Bay High School will present their research and displays based on their interviews and work with local Franco-Americans over the last four months. The program, “Francophone Maine: Past and Present,” commemorates the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City.
As part of the research, the students have worked with the Franco-American Heritage Center and attended La Rencontre. Students conducted interviews in French to practice the language in an authentic way. The program will also include a 20-minute sing-a-long with Roger Bouffard at the keyboard. Bouffard has performed for La Rencontre in the past.
Everyone is invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette at 786-6936 or by calling the center at 689-2000.
