SOUTH PARIS – John W. Crockett went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 1, at Market Square Health Care Center.
He was born in Madrid, June 28, 1908, the son of Henery N. and Phrenie (Wilkins) Crockett. He was educated in Wilton schools. He married Marion Jack Johnson on Aug. 1, 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and worked as a woodsman, scaler, grader, Wilton Woolen Mill, Foster Lumber, Bessy’s, Paris Manufacturing and Turner Wood Turning. He worked on town roads in Farmington to Farmington Falls and rolled snow on roadways.
He was a deacon at New Hope Church and was a gifted water dowser and solitaire player. His hobbies were playing pool, yard work, taking care of his park and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play basketball. He loved his family and telling stories down the generations.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 58 and was proud to be a World War II veteran. He was also a member of the Grace Fellowship Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Alice and husband, Rodney Allen, and Rose Anna and husband, Roland Gammon; one son, Lester A. Crockett; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife; and a daughter, Barbara Hewins.
