WILTON – Seat belt use, now mandatory in Maine, was checked in Wilton this past weekend.

Police conducted a roadblock to check for seat belt use between 5 and 9 p.m. Friday on Route 2 near the weigh station, police Officer Doug Geis said Tuesday.

During the roadblock, 24 drivers were ticketed for not wearing seat belts, he said.

They also arrested one driver on a charge of driving under the influence, and they confiscated marijuana from three vehicles, he said.
