Legion meal
AUBURN – American Legion Post 31 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the post home, 426 Washington St. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. with Bee Jay Bedard cooking. Call the post at 673-6992 for reservations. The Auxiliary will also meet at 7 p.m.
Lodge inspection
AUBURN – Ashlar Lodge 105, AF and AM, will conduct its annual inspection on Monday, June 9, at the Auburn Masonic Temple, 1021 Turner St. The work of the evening will be a Master Mason Degree.

Qigong for health
LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will present “Qigong for Optimal Health” at the Wednesday, June 11, meeting of the Cancer Wellness and Support Group.
Qigong is a several-thousand-year-old Asian exercise that focuses on breathing. It is used for gentle exercise to circulate energy through the body, reduce stress and stimulate the body’s major meridians. The benefits for cancer patients are being studied in clinical trials at several major cancer centers.
Program instructor Betsey Foster has studied qigong and tai chi chuan since 1988. She teaches at hospitals and health centers in western and central Maine.
The program will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Conference Room I, lower level, 12 High Street Medical Office Building adjacent to Central Maine Medical Center. The program is free and no preregistration is required. Anyone with questions should call 795-8250.
Nutrition savvy
LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will present “Supermarket Savvy: A Cancer and Nutrition Workshop,” the fourth installment of a cancer and nutrition workshop series, on Thursday, June 12.
Oncology dietitian Ashley Whalen will discuss how to navigate the grocery story to identify wholesome, nutritious foods that can help in the fight against cancer.
The program will be offered free from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Hannaford’s on Spring Street, Auburn, in the entryway near the produce department. Call 795-8250 or 1-877-DEMPCTR to register.
Retiring flags
SABATTUS – There will be a ceremony by kindergarten through fourth grade students, “Honoring and Retiring the Flag,” at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Sabattus Central School.
Prizes for essays on “What the Flag Means to Me” and a poster contest on “How to Display the American Flag” will be presented. The children will sing patriotic songs and take part in a formal retirement ceremony.
The public is invited and retired veterans are especially welcome. Those who have flags that need to be retired should take them to the school or call Diane Whalen at the school.
Moon madness
AUBURN – United Way of Androscoggin County will team up with Margaritas Restaurant to offer the community Full Moon Madness on Wednesday, June 18.
From 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Margarita’s, 180 Center St., will offer games and prizes. Proceeds from the sales will benefit United Way of Androscoggin County.

Advocates 30th
AUBURN – Advocates for Children will hold its 30th anniversary celebration and annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Martindale County Club.
The evening will feature a presentation by Attorney General Steve Rowe on the importance of quality parent and early care education.
Eileen Fair, LCSW, will receive the Community Service Award for her work with children and families. If interested in attending, call 783-3990 to reserve a space.
