BANGOR (AP) – A Bangor city councilor has resigned his seat after pleading no contest to forging the city manager’s name on a $9,000 invoice.

Fifty-two-year-old Richard Greene entered his plea Tuesday in Penobscot County Superior Court and was sentenced to five days in jail. Prosecutors said he forged an agreement seeking a “usage fee” for the public display of nine mayoral portraits he photographed that are hanging in City Hall.

Greene had not been able to attend City Council meetings because bail conditions included no contact with the city manager or finance director, both of whom routinely are present.

Council Chairwoman Susan Hawes said Greene’s seat will be filled in the November election.
