FARMINGTON – The Maine Arts Commission will present free cultural workshops on Wednesday, June 11, in the Olson Student Center, University of Maine at Farmington.
The workshops will begin at 12:40 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon with discussion panels on all facets of the arts. There will also be individual grant writing assistance available. Details can be found on the pages of MaineArts.com.
The workshops are free and, with the exception of the Grants Doctor, require no preregistration.
The three panel-style sessions will continue to 5:30 p.m. They will comprise technology and marketing; contemporary art and public art; and community arts, traditional arts and arts in education.
Local artist Steve Muise will demonstrate the traditional art of fiddle playing during the traditional arts presentation; meanwhile, as the sessions are under way, the Grants Doctor, a new component of the workshops, will take place.
“The newest offering, the Grants Doctor, was an experiment in providing grant-writing advice to workshop participants in a different forum,” said senior development associate, Kathy Ann Shaw.
“Instead of a group workshop that does not afford one-on-one interaction, the Grants Doctor provides focused counseling. The program’s trial run in Portland proved so successful that a second ‘overflow’ day was needed to accommodate all the appointments requested.”
The Grants Doctor sessions will be available from 1 p.m. on; they require preregistration through Kathy Ann Shaw of the Maine Arts Commission, 287-2750.
Details of the entire day can be acquired by visiting www.mainearts.com, or by contacting Darrell Bulmer at 287-6746.
