NORWAY – Velma A. Smith, 83, of Oxford, died Thursday, June 5, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Dry Mills on Nov. 28, 1924, the daughter of Harvey and Bertha Young Strout. She attended schools in Gray and had been employed at Robinson Manufacturing in Oxford for many years.
She married Carl Smith on March 27, 1946.
Velma was a kind and loving mother to her children. She had many flowers that she cared for and enjoyed. She liked to read, do puzzles and needlework. She was a devout Christian and loved her Lord faithfully.
She is survived by a daughter, Carlene Rogers and her husband, Don; a son, Larry Smith and his wife, Suzanne; grandchildren, Carl Tripp, Gary Rogers and his wife, Cindy, Kenny Rogers and his companion, Tammy, Terry Rogers and her husband, Bill, Tracy Luscombe and her husband, Dan, Laurie Smith, and Eric Smith; great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Mike, Kristina, Tim, Jennifer, Kody, Riley, Lauren and Andrea; nieces and nephews, Anita, Ansel, Sonny, Jimmy and Maxine; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Tim Smith; a granddaughter, Tina Radcliff; and two sisters, Lila Tufts and Vera Tufts.
