NEWPORT, N.H. (AP) – Residents are being ordered to boil drinking water from the town’s supply.
The order went into effect Friday after the water tested positive for fecal coliform E. coli bacteria. The order will remain in effect until the water tests clean on two new samples.
The state tests water from six sites in town each month. Officials say the positive reading was on the south side of town. They say there is no way to know how the system became contaminated.
