MILLINOCKET (AP) – Authorities say a fire that swept through a mobile home in Millinocket has claimed a woman’s life.
Stephen McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety says firefighters found the body after extinguishing the blaze Sunday morning.
He says the victim is believed to be 41-year-old Constance Clayton-Willcoxen, who lived alone. The state medical examiner’s office in Augusta will seek to confirm the identification when the body is examined on Monday.
McCausland says Clayton-Willcoxen had been outside at a campfire with a friend. He says the fire was reported at 5:30 a.m. after she went inside. Fire marshal investigators are still trying to determine what started the fire.
