AUBURN – The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will celebrate the lives of hundreds of local residents who have survived cancer in a Victory Lap at the Relay For Life at 6:15 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Edward Little High School track. All area survivors are invited.
A special luminaria (candle lantern) ceremony will be held at 9:30 p.m. Friday to remember those lost to cancer and honor those who have survived.
“It will be beautiful when all the bags with candles are illuminated around the track,” said Diane Gatchell, luminaria chairwoman. “We hope to sell enough to light the entire track.”
For more information about cancer or about purchasing a luminaria, forming a team or walking in the survivors’ lap, contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or online at www.cancer.org or www.relayforlife.org.
The Relay For Life in Androscoggin County on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, is an all-night community event bringing together teams of families, friends, religious groups, neighborhoods and businesses to keep a continuous presence on the track throughout the night, walking in shifts to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
Dollars raised support American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient services.
Relay For Life is a handicapped-accessible event. To find out how to get involved or to volunteer, contact the society.
