All citizens of Maine who travel on the Maine Turnpike should be concerned about the proposed relocation of the York toll plaza. The project is projected to cost $40 million, and everyone who pays a toll will pay for that project.
The MTA has said it is concerned about travelers’ safety. Since 2002, at that location, accidents have dropped in half – to an average of 11 per year. There have been no fatalities and no serious or life-threatening accidents.
Will $40 million eliminate all accidents? I do not think so.
