NEW GLOUCESTER – Two candidates are running unopposed for two selectmen’s seats in Tuesday’s election.

Nathaniel “Nat” Berry, 59, is running for the three-year seat.

A retired lieutenant with the Maine Warden Service, Berry said he wants to give something back to his community. He and his family have lived in New Gloucester most of his adult life, and he has been active in community efforts.

“I have no burning issues, and I want to do what I can to help what’s best for the town and people,” Berry said. “I know I’m not going to please everyone, but I will do the best I can,” he said.

Pamela Slye, 49, is running for the remaining two years of David Lunt’s term. She has lived here for 14 years.

“I have always wanted to be a selectman, and I will have something to bring to the table. I can listen and I’m not afraid to say,” she said.

Slye has served on the New Gloucester Public Safety Committee for three years and the Budget Committee for four years.

Also on Tuesday, voters will be asked to approve SAD 15’s budget of $21,041,712 for 2008-09.

One school board position is open for a three-year term with no one announcing their candidacy. Voters will be able to write in a name.

Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial School on Intervale Road.
