NEW SHARON – A New Sharon man faces felony charges after 48 marijuana plants and a small amount of heroin were discovered Friday at an Industry Road residence.

Colby Weymouth, 20, was arrested on charges of aggravated cultivating of marijuana and possession of heroin, Maine State Police Trooper Mathew Casavant said Monday.

State police and Maine drug enforcement agents went to the house to conduct a probation check on a person living there, Casavant said.

While there, the odor of growing marijuana was detected, he said, and a search warrant was sought.

The warrant was executed with assistance from Franklin County sheriff’s deputies, Casavant said, and 48 marijuana plants were found inside the residence along with a loaded rifle.

After further investigation, just under a gram of heroin was also seized, he said.

The street value of the heroin was estimated at about $300 and the value of the marijuana, if all plants reached maturity, was estimated at $72,000, Casavant said.

Weymouth was released on $1,000 cash bail Saturday and is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court Aug. 14.
