I am an eighth-grader at Auburn Middle School and a member of Girl Scouts. I am writing to say that I would like to see a citywide cleanup event once a year, around Earth Day.
I got this idea when my Girl Scout troop and I went to Litchfield on April 28 and helped clean up their town. I saw how wonderful it worked and I want to do it here.
I started thinking this for Auburn when I saw how filthy Park Avenue is. Park Avenue is terrible. Trash is all over the place.
I think we should concentrate on cleaning the parks, churches, around schools, and the graveyards, as well as around the bridges on which most of the people drive through the city. This is important, because people from different cities and towns will think that Auburn is a dump.
Also, any money from the bottles found and collected would be split between the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops that attend the clean-up.
I hope that the mayor and councilors will consider this or something close to it. I think this is important to the city.
