FARMINGTON – Due to demand, Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will host two more introductory GPS training workshops on June 17 and 19. The classes will teach people how to use a Global Positioning System, extend their GPS skills and avoid expensive mistakes.

The Maine Forest Service is offering training sessions on the use of GPS for landowners and outdoor enthusiasts from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 19, in Room C23, Roberts Learning Center, University of Maine at Farmington.

The training sessions are being sponsored by the Upper Kennebec Branch of Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine and hosted by the conservation district.

Registration deadline is Friday, June 13, for the Tuesday training and by Tuesday, June 17, for the Thursday training.

The training will teach the basics of how GPS works as well as uses for the loggers, realtors and in-the-field applications for the GPS unit. The training will be led by Patty Cormier, Maine Forest Service.

The Maine Forest Service has 25 GPS units that participants will use for the training and the class is limited to 25. Cost is $20.
