RUMFORD – Thelma Libby, 83, of Rumford, died late Tuesday evening, June 10, 2008, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family.
She was born June 27, 1924, in Vienna, a daughter of Frank and Hattie (Davis) Meader. She received her education in Wilton schools. She married Buster Hutchinson and following his death, married Carroll Libby. Both of her husbands predeceased her.
A dedicated homemaker, she also was employed as a fancy shoe stitcher in local shoe shops and was employed at Forster Mfg. Co. In her free time, she made herself available to baby-sit for others.
She enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout leader for many years and was a member of the Mother’s Club in both Carthage and Wilton. She was also a member of the Wilton American Legion and Rumford VFW Auxiliaries. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing and working on craft projects.
She is survived by three sons, Harry Hutchinson and his companion, Tammy Holems of Andover; Laforiest “Joe” Libby and his wife, Brenda of Texas and Allen Libby and his wife, Star of Rumford; six daughters, Pauline Brochu and her husband, Gerard of Livermore Falls, Rachel Libby and Juilet McCaffery of Rumford, Donna Webber of Wilton, Janalyn Woods of California and Shirley Bradeen of Dixfield; four grandchildren whom she raised as her own, Leroy Varnum and his wife, Linda of Rumford, Leann Webber and her husband, Dennis of Peru, Edward Varnum of Rumford and Randy Varnum and his wife, Crystal of Peru; 53 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Roland and an infant daughter, Coradean.
